Alan Skees is an Associate Professor of Printmaking and Graphic Design in the Department of Fine Art and Art History at Christopher Newport University, where he teaches Digital Art, Digital Media, Digital Photography, Photography, 2D Design, Foundations, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Alternative Printmaking, Installation, and Graphic Design. He maintains his studio practice in Williamsburg, Virginia, and has exhibited extensively across the United States and internationally.
His research interests focus on the intersection of technology and art, with particular emphasis on Glitch Art, Printmaking, Art Theory, Studio Foundations, Teaching Practices, and Digital Imaging. Skees explores how digital errors and technological limitations can be harnessed as creative tools, blending traditional printmaking techniques with contemporary digital processes to create works that comment on American regional identity through a technological lens.
Skees' artistic output demonstrates consistent exploration of glitch aesthetics and digital imaging, with his 'American Glitch: Neo-Regionalism' series appearing in multiple venues across several years.
