Dr. Levoy's research program investigates mechanisms to optimize end-of-life preparation across the cancer trajectory, addressing critical gaps at the intersection of palliative care, oncology, and caregiving. Her work specifically targets improvements in decision-making processes, terminal illness outcomes, and bereavement experiences through communication training interventions developed under the RESPECT Center framework.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Emerging Leaders Award, Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (2022)
- NCI Research Methods Workshop Selection, Harvard Medical School (2021)
- Faculty Clinical Teaching Excellence Award, University of Miami (2016)
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation & American Cancer Society Fellowships
As Principal Investigator on American Cancer Society-funded research ($30,000 grant for advance care planning studies), she maintains active NIH-supported work through NINR mechanisms. Leveraging her clinical oncology background (OCN certification) and nursing education expertise (CNE), she mentors students through the RESPECT Center's interdisciplinary palliative care initiatives while contributing to IU School of Nursing's 'vibrant' research community as described in institutional materials.
The RESPECT Center serves as her primary research hub, facilitating collaborations across aging research, cancer care, and nursing education domains to advance serious illness communication practices.
