Kristi Cassaro is a Term Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Barnard College. Her research focuses on 19th-century American literature and cultural studies, integrating philosophy and history of science with themes like pragmatism, consciousness studies, ecopoetics, and posthumanism. She connects these areas to figures such as Emerson, Thoreau, and James Baldwin while addressing gender, sexuality, and critical race studies.

Her current project expands her dissertation The Geometry of Pragmatism into a book. Courses she has developed include American Exceptionalism and The Soul of the Nation?, recognized with the Diana Colbert Award for Innovative Teaching. Her work seeks to reframe discussions of identity through posthumanist frameworks.
