Jessica Curran is a Lecturer in the Department of English at SUNY Old Westbury. She holds a PhD in English from Stony Brook University and a BA in English and History from SUNY Geneseo. Her research focuses on ecopoetics, environmental literature, and American literary traditions, with particular emphasis on sustainability and mindfulness in education. Curran teaches courses such as Environmental Literature and Community Learning.
Her work explores intersections of ecology and literary forms, including studies of Thoreau, Dickinson, and contemporary eco-philosophy. Recent publications include analyses of eco-poetics evolution and sustainability pedagogy. In 2025, she was honored as Long Island Poet of the Year by the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association.
Curran’s academic contributions span literary criticism, environmental humanities, and innovative educational practices. Her scholarship bridges literary analysis with urgent ecological concerns, advocating for mindful engagement with environmental challenges through textual and pedagogical frameworks.
