Kristen Connolly is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Chair of the Division of Law and Justice in the Department of Criminal Justice at Hilbert College. She earned her BS in Criminal Justice from Hilbert College (2007), MS from SUNY Buffalo State College (2010), and PhD in Sociology from University at Buffalo (2021), specializing in Law and Urban Sociology.
Research Focus: Her expertise spans drug policy, criminal justice inequalities, and socio-legal frameworks. Her doctoral research analyzed physician regulation during the opioid crisis and treatment disparities for substance use disorders. Key interests include:
- Qualitative analysis of drug treatment systems
- Historical evolution of criminal law
- Sociological impacts of incarceration
- Community-based reentry programs
Professional Contributions: With 7+ years teaching criminal justice courses across Western New York institutions, she currently instructs: CJ 101 (Introduction to Criminal Justice), CJ 204 (Crime and Society), CJ 205 (Drugs and Criminal Justice), and CJ 305 (Research Methods). She serves as peer reviewer for Journal of Drug Issues and Contemporary Sociology.
Affiliation History: Former research fellow at Center for the Development of Human Services (Buffalo State College) and housing court liaison for Buffalo Housing Court. Active member of American Sociological Association's Crime, Law and Deviance section.
