Christine A. Saum, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Law and Justice Studies at Rowan University's College of Humanities & Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware (UD), where she previously worked as an Associate Scientist in the Center for Drug and Alcohol Studies and served as an Assistant Professor in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on drug policy, corrections-based treatment, drug courts, and women offenders. She has led federally-funded studies on drug court offenders and prison treatment programs, and currently evaluates an alcohol treatment court for repeat DUI offenders.
Dr. Saum specializes in interventions involving reentry strategies for women and juvenile offenders, HIV prevention in corrections, and the intersection of drugs and crime. She has co-authored a book on cocaine-exposed infants and published extensively on topics including DUI courts, sex in prison, and date-rape drugs. Her teaching covers corrections, criminal justice policy, specialty courts, and reentry.
She has managed grants and collaborated with corrections/courts officials, demonstrating expertise in program evaluation and policy analysis. Her work combines academic research with practical applications in criminal justice reform.
