Kris Kodrich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism & Media Communication at Colorado State University (CSU), part of the College of Liberal Arts. He specializes in international mass communication, communication innovation, and the political economy of global media. His research focuses on journalist behaviors and ethics, particularly in Latin America and the U.S., with a strong emphasis on digital media's role in societal issues.
Educated at Indiana University (Ph.D. in Mass Communication), Ohio State University (M.A. in Journalism), and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (B.A. in Mass Communication), Kodrich has over a decade of professional experience as a reporter and city editor for daily newspapers in Florida and Wisconsin.
His research interests span media ethics at borders, disaster communication via social media, and the evolution of journalism in turbulent contexts. Notable work includes analyzing U.S. coverage of Brazil during the 2014 World Cup and studying the role of online communities in disaster response (e.g., Haiti earthquake). His book Tradition and Change in the Nicaraguan Press explores post-authoritarian media systems.
Kodrich’s recent articles highlight innovative approaches to local journalism, gender representation in media narratives, and ethical challenges in border reporting. He has held prestigious fellowships including Fulbright grants in Spain and Chile, and taught on Semester at Sea programs.
