Darrell Blair is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Journalism & Media Communication at Colorado State University, part of the College of Liberal Arts. He serves as JTC 210 Coordinator and advisor for the Kappa Tau Alpha chapter. Blair holds a PhD Candidate/ABD status from the University of Tennessee. His research focuses on sports media, journalism’s societal impacts, and how issues like race, gender, and deviance manifest in sport contexts, particularly in college football and the Bowl Championship Series.
Education: PhD Candidate at the University of Tennessee. Previously, he worked as a professional newspaper reporter covering the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, and college football. He transitioned to academia in 2004, serving as General Manager of The Mirror (UNC’s student newspaper) and teaching news writing courses at UNC before joining CSU in 2012.
Teaching includes courses like Media Writing (JTC 210), Sports Public Relations, and Media and Society. His work has been published in outlets such as USA Today, Rocky Mountain News, and multiple regional newspapers. Office hours are 1-2 PM MW in C-227 Clark Bldg., or by appointment.
Blair actively engages with media trends and outdoor activities, often critiquing CSU and NFL sports while mentoring student journalists. His career bridges professional journalism and academic instruction, emphasizing practical skills and critical analysis of media narratives.
