Kris Clarke is a Professor of Social Work at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Social Sciences. A US-born Irish citizen with over 25 years in Finland, his work bridges decolonial theory, abolitionist practices, and social memory studies. He leads the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS), Helsinki Inequality Initiative (INEQ), and Urban and Regional Studies (Urbaria). Clarke's research focuses on decolonizing social work curricula, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ advocacy, with notable contributions to Finland's critical social work reforms.

Recognition: Named Professor Emeritus in 2023, Clarke has received grants from the Nordic Summer University and collaborates internationally on projects like the Social Work Routes podcast and Queer Love research initiative.
Teaching & Leadership: Supervises doctoral candidates in Social Sciences and Gender Studies. Teaches courses on structural social work and global social justice, emphasizing decolonial praxis and anti-racist pedagogy.
Labs/Initiatives: Co-directs the Helsinki Inequality Initiative and leads the Nordic digital curriculum project for LGBTQIA+ issues. Active in community-based research with marginalized groups through participatory action methods.
