معرفی
Kostas Spyrou is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. His academic work centers on maritime safety, risk assessment, and ship behavior under extreme conditions.
His research interests include:
- Probabilistic modeling for fire safety onboard ships
- Risk-based design frameworks in marine environments
- Ship maneuverability and survivability in extreme astern seas
- Safety improvement strategies for bulk carriers and other vessels
- Interplay between design, operation, and environmental conditions
The published articles highlight a consistent focus on enhancing maritime safety through quantitative risk analysis and system-level design improvements. His work spans both theoretical modeling and practical application in naval architecture. Key themes include fire safety protocols, emergency response systems, and dynamic vessel performance under adverse weather.
He served as Principal Investigator on the ONR-NICOP Research Grant (2013–2017), which advanced knowledge in onboard safety systems. This project underscores his leadership in externally funded research initiatives.
He is affiliated with the following research environment:
- Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering Research Group, University of Strathclyde
