Professor Kostas Nikolopoulos is a Professor of Physics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham. His research focuses on experimental studies of electroweak symmetry breaking, Higgs sector analysis, and searches for additional Higgs bosons through the ATLAS collaboration at CERN. He led the ATLAS H→ZZ group during the discovery of a Standard Model-like Higgs boson (2010-2012). Since 2017, he has been involved in the NEWS-G collaboration, exploring light dark matter using the Spherical Proportional Counter at the Laboratoire Souterraine de Modane and SNOLab, Canada.
Professor Nikolopoulos contributes to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and actively promotes public engagement in physics. His work aligns with the University's research priorities in particle physics and fundamental science.
He has been affiliated with key projects such as the SEDINE detector and has participated in events like the Royal Society's 'Beyond the Boson' initiative. His research also intersects with ERC-funded projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.
