Gaetano Barone

Gaetano Barone is an Assistant Professor of Physics (Research) at Brown University, affiliated with the CMS Collaboration and the Data Science Institute. His research focuses on precision measurements in particle physics, particularly in Higgs and electroweak sectors, top quark physics, and detector development.

Education: Ph.D. in Physics (2015), M.A. (2009), and B.A. (2007) from Université de Genève. Postdoctoral research at Brandeis University (2015–2018) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (2018–2023).

Research Interests

• Electroweak Higgs properties in ZZ, WW, bb, and cc channels.
• Precision top quark physics, including vector boson couplings and ttγ production.
• Detector development: 4D tracking, silicon timing detectors, and CMS upgrades.
• Low-energy physics: Fermi constant extraction and pion lifetime measurements.

Awards: 2024 Research Seed Award for advancing pico-second silicon detector applications in space-based operations.

Grants & Funding: Active in detector R&D and Higgs physics through collaborations with CERN, CMS, and the LHC Higgs Working Group.
