Kodi Roberts is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Louisiana State University (LSU), affiliated with the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. His work focuses on intersections of race, religion, and resistance movements in U.S. history. He earned a BA in History and Religious Studies from LSU (2001), an MA from the University of New Orleans (2003), and a PhD in History from the University of Chicago (2012).
Research interests include Afro-Atlantic Religion, the Black Panther Party, and the political dynamics of race and faith in late 20th-century America. He has published works such as Voodoo & Power: The Politics of Religion in New Orleans, 1889-1940 (LSU Press, 2015) and articles on Voodoo's institutionalization and economic dimensions. His awards include the University of Chicago Dissertation Fellowship (2010–11) and Trustees Fellowship (2004–09).
Teaching includes courses on African American history, race and ideologies, Voodoo's cultural role, and prison systems. His research also explores resistance movements tied to African American religious practices.
