Dr. Ahmad Greene-Hayes is an Associate Professor of African American Religious Studies at Harvard Divinity School. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and teaches courses on African American religious history, race, sexuality, and interdisciplinary archive studies. His research explores the intersections of Black religious practices, sexuality, and archival methodologies. Key works include Underworld Work: Black Atlantic Religion-Making in Jim Crow New Orleans (2025) and Little Richard’s Witness (under contract). He has been awarded fellowships from Yale and Princeton, and serves on committees for the American Academy of Religion and the Society for the Study of Black Religion.
Education: BA (Williams College), MA and PhD (Princeton University). Awards include induction into the Martin Luther King Jr. Collegium of Scholars (2022) and the Society for the Study of Black Religion (2023). He collaborates with institutions like the Schomburg Center and the African American Policy Forum.
Research interests emphasize marginalized religious practices, queer Black religious figures (e.g., Sylvia Rivera), and decolonizing archival methods. Courses span American religious history and Black theological frameworks.
