Klaus Kaindl

Klaus Kaindl is a full professor in the Department for Translation Studies, specializing in translation theory, multimodal translation, and the sociological dimensions of translation work. His research focuses on translator identities, auto/biographical approaches, and the intersection of translation with popular culture, particularly in comics and audiovisual media. He co-led the REWIRE project (2020–2025), which reinforces women in research, and has published extensively on fictional representations of translators, multimodal translation frameworks, and the visibility of translation in society.

Key contributions include theoretical works on nested translator identities, multimodal conception of translation, and the role of translators as social actors. His activities include keynote speeches at international conferences, such as 'Mapping a Translator’s Life' (2024) and 'The Remaking of The Translator’s Reality' (2018). Kaindl has authored/co-authored over 130 publications, including the 2024 Handbuch Audiovisuelle Übersetzung, and actively participates in interdisciplinary collaborations across Europe and beyond.
