Klaus Geyer's research interests are broad and interdisciplinary, focusing on the interface between language, society, and media. His work encompasses sociolinguistics, grammar, phonetics, and digital communication. He investigates how language is used in organizational settings, how minorities manage linguistic identity, and how grammar reflects information structure. A significant portion of his recent research analyzes online hate speech, particularly in Danish social media, using corpus-based methods to uncover patterns of xenophobia and evidential practices such as hyperlinking. He also explores challenges in audiovisual translation, especially regarding dialects in Scandinavian media, and contributes to phonological studies on diphthongs and language documentation.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward digital discourse analysis, with a focus on hate speech in Facebook and online Danish media. These works combine corpus linguistics, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics to examine how language functions as a tool of exclusion and evidence in public discourse. His research often employs multimodal and cross-linguistic approaches, reflecting a deep engagement with both theoretical and applied linguistics.
Klaus Geyer is actively involved in multiple research projects, including:
- Xperohs: Towards Balance and Boundaries in Public Discourse – as project leader, examining expression and perception of online hate speech (2018–2023)
- Towards Balance and Boundaries in Public Discourse – ongoing project on online hate speech
- Patientologie - Human Health – as CoI, exploring health communication during the COVID-19 pandemic
He has also served as a peer reviewer, journal editor, and member of academic committees, including the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft research network on argumentative learning texts. He regularly delivers guest lectures and participates in international conferences, contributing to academic and public discourse on language and society.
Klaus Geyer leads and teaches courses such as "Was ist Deutsch?", "Videnskabsteori II", and "Hvad er tysk?", reflecting his commitment to education in German linguistics and research methodology. His academic fingerprint includes strong engagement with corpus linguistics, evidentiality, online hate speech, and audiovisual translation, positioning him as a key figure in contemporary linguistic research on digital communication and social discourse.
