Klaus Hackländer

Klaus Hackländer is a full Professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), leading the Institute of Wildlife Biology and Game Management. His research focuses on wildlife ecology and management, particularly European mammals, with emphasis on conservation, population dynamics, and human-wildlife conflict resolution. He serves as CEO of the German Wildlife Foundation and chairs international committees on game management.

Research Interests span wildlife-habitat interactions, climate change impacts on species distribution, and sustainable hunting practices. His work integrates GIS technologies, reproductive biology, and ecosystem management, particularly in Alpine regions.

Recent publications highlight climate-driven range shifts in Alpine species, hybridization dynamics between hare species, and conflict mitigation strategies for large predators. Awards include multiple poster prizes at international conferences. He has led over 75 research projects funded by federal agencies, EU institutions, and private organizations.
