Margit Zohmann-Neuberger is a Scientific Assistant at the Institute of Wildlife Biology and Game Management within the Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). With a doctoral degree completed in 2017 and a Master's in Zoology from the University of Vienna (2004), she has dedicated her career to wildlife ecology research with a particular focus on grouse species in Austria.
Dr. Zohmann-Neuberger's research interests center on wildlife ecology, with particular emphasis on:
- Grouse species conservation (capercaillie, black grouse, rock ptarmigan)
- Habitat modeling and assessment in alpine environments
- Application of FTIR spectroscopy for analyzing wildlife diet and foraging behavior
- Impacts of human infrastructure (power lines, ski lifts) on wildlife populations
- Effects of tourism and recreation on sensitive alpine ecosystems
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying innovative analytical methods like FTIR spectroscopy to traditional wildlife ecology questions. This interdisciplinary approach bridges the gap between analytical chemistry and wildlife conservation, particularly for studying the feeding ecology of grouse species. Her work also addresses practical conservation challenges, with numerous projects focused on habitat modeling for conservation planning of threatened species in the Austrian Alps.
Dr. Zohmann-Neuberger has received recognition for her work through awards including the CIC Young Opinion Award (2012) and the Österreichischer Nationalpark-Forschungspreis (2004).
She has supervised multiple Master's theses and serves as a reviewer for prestigious journals including Ibis and Wildlife Biology. Her community service includes active participation in organizing scientific conferences, such as the 157th Annual Meeting of the German Ornithologists' Society in 2024.
Currently, Dr. Zohmann-Neuberger leads research projects including "Habitat modelling for Black grouse, Capercaillie and Rock ptarmigan in Styria" (2024-2025), continuing her commitment to applied wildlife conservation research in Austria.
