Kishor Kumar Guru-Gharana is a Professor in the Department of Management and Economics at East Texas A&M University's College of Business, where he has taught since 2009 after promotion to Full Professor in 2014. Known for personalized student attention even in online courses, he emphasizes that "statistics and mathematics are forever" due to their universal applicability across disciplines from medicine to finance.
His educational journey includes a Ph.D. in Econometrics and International Trade from Southern Methodist University (1987), an M.S. in Finance from the University of Texas-Dallas (1989), and earlier degrees from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. This foundation supports his research at the intersection of financial markets and macroeconomic theory.
Dr. Guru-Gharana's research centers on econometric analysis of international finance and market dynamics, particularly investigating the puzzling disconnect between stock markets and real-world economies during events like the COVID-19 pandemic. His methodology heavily utilizes advanced time series techniques including Granger causality tests to examine relationships between financial indices and macroeconomic variables.
His publication trends reveal consistent application of econometric tools to global economic questions, with recent work analyzing Japan's NIKKEI 225 and S&P 500 relationships with macroeconomic indicators, Brazil-US trade dynamics, China's currency policies, and remittance impacts on Indian inflation.
His extensive honors include the Fulbright Scholarship, multiple Teaching Excellence Awards from TAMUC and the Texas A&M System, Distinguished Research Awards from Allied Academies International Conference, and corporate recognitions from J.P. Morgan Chase and Bank One.

He teaches core courses including Statistical Methods (ECO 578) and Business and Economics Statistics (ECO 302), where he conveys his philosophy that numerical literacy forms the universal language governing everything from bodily functions to global commerce.
