Kimberly Parker is a Professor in the Department of Integrated Strategic Communication at the University of Kentucky's College of Communication and Information (CI). She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Oklahoma (2004), along with earlier degrees from the same institution. Her research focuses on health communication, inoculation theory, and crisis communication, with a particular emphasis on vaccine uptake, risky behaviors among youth, and communication strategies with marginalized populations. Parker has also explored nonprofit communication, donor engagement, and the role of narrative methods in influencing public health decisions.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education. Notable projects include studies on inoculation messages to combat vaccine hesitancy and initiatives to foster relationships between Gen Z/Millennials and nonprofits. She is a member of the Markey Cancer Center’s Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program and has received the Core Fulbright Scholar award (2019).
Parker leads grant-funded projects such as 'The Potential for Inoculation Messages to Influence Vaccine Uptake among Underrepresented Populations' (2021–2022) and 'Giving a Boost to Inoculation Messages – 3 Phase Experimental Design' (2017–2018). Her research spans topics like mental health messaging, disaster preparedness, and cross-cultural communication, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications.
