Elisia Cohen

Elisia Cohen is Professor and Director of the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota. Her research develops evidence-based communication strategies to reduce health disparities, with particular focus on cancer prevention and vaccination uptake in underserved communities.

She designs and evaluates multimedia interventions addressing barriers to preventive health behaviors, including social media campaigns for HPV vaccination and community-based programs for cancer screening. Her work integrates health communication theory with community-engaged methods to create culturally resonant messaging across diverse populations.

Cohen received the Dale E. Brashers Distinguished Mentor Award (2018) from the National Communication Association and the American Public Health Association's Mayhew Derryberry Award (2016) for contributions to health education. Her current projects include studies on vaping perceptions among youth and virtual community engagement platforms for health research dissemination.
