مدرس · Contemporary Dance
Purchase College, State University of New Yorkمعرفی
Kimberly Bartosik is a Lecturer of Dance at the State University of New York at Purchase Conservatory of Dance and also teaches at the Merce Cunningham Trust. As a choreographer, performer, educator, and essayist, she creates viscerally provocative choreographic projects built on virtuosic movement language, rigorous conceptual explorations, and highly theatricalized environments. Her work is deeply informed by literature and cinema, dramatically illuminating the ephemeral nature of performance.
Her research interests focus on contemporary dance practices, embodied experience, and interdisciplinary approaches to performance. Bartosik's work carves out space for criticism and compassion while exploring power dynamics, vulnerability, and societal issues through the physical and emotional extremes of performers. She has been building casts of diverse ages, with a focus on young, untrained performers, and creating experiences that dissolve boundaries between performer and audience.
Bartosik's recent publications examine dance criticism, artistic lineage, and alternative funding models for the arts. Her writings reflect on the politics of language, working conditions for dancers, and the relationship between artistic practice and social understanding. The trends in her scholarly work demonstrate a consistent engagement with the theoretical underpinnings of performance while addressing practical concerns within the dance community.
