Kimberley Bradshaw
Kimberley Bradshaw is a Lecturer in the Medical Imaging Sciences department at the Institute of Health, University of Cumbria, since September 2022. She transitioned to academia after a decade in the NHS as a diagnostic radiographer specializing in Mammography (postgraduate studies at University of Salford, 2016). She maintains clinical competency through bank shifts at her former NHS hospital.
Research Focus: History of Radiology. Notable work includes a prize-winning essay on Florence Stoney (Britain’s first female radiologist), set for publication in the British Society for the History of Radiology’s Invisible Light journal (Summer 2023) and submission to the UKIO Radiology Conference. Her research highlights underrepresented figures in medical history.
Teaching: Module leader for Clinical Radiography 1 (undergraduate) and Preparing for Professional Practice: The Radiographer in the Wider Context of Healthcare (apprenticeship). Teaches practical radiographic skills, clinical knowledge, and simulation-based learning in state-of-the-art facilities like the Institute’s x-ray labs and immersion room.

- 2nd place in John Clifton Essay Prize (British Society for the History of Radiology, 2022)
Course Innovations: Leads the University’s unique Diagnostic Radiography programs offering 50:50 placement-university split, modality specialization in year 3, and apprenticeship pathways. Highlights include Ambleside campus modality showcase days and partnerships with NHS trusts for placement stability.
