Dr Khadijeh Paymooni is a CIMR Research Associate at the University of Newcastle's School of Engineering, part of the College of Engineering, Science and Environment. She holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle and a Master's from the University of Tehran. Her research focuses on Membrane Technology, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, Low Emission Technologies, Gas Separation, Bioenergy, and Carbon Capture. She has contributed to over 30 publications, including work on DRI production, hydrogen energy systems, and membrane reactor optimization.
Her career spans roles as Course Coordinator/Lecturer for RENE2000 Bioenergy and CHEE2695 Energy Transfer, with teaching responsibilities from 2013-2020. She has secured $3.1M in grants, including ARENA-funded projects on electric smelting and BHP-supported hydrogen DRI initiatives. Current research emphasizes Australian iron ore utilization under hydrogen reduction and coating materials for metallurgical processes.
Dr Paymooni is affiliated with the Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research (CIMR) and has supervised three graduate students. Her work bridges chemical engineering and materials science, addressing decarbonization challenges in ironmaking and energy systems.
