Professor Kevin Morrell is the Rowlands Chair in Transformational Strategy at Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University, within the Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability. He has held previous academic positions at Durham University Business School, Warwick Business School, the University of Birmingham, and Loughborough University Business School. His research spans critical management, organizational behavior, ethics, public policy, and sustainability.
His research interests focus on the critical examination of leadership, governance, and evidence-based practices in management. He explores how language, narratives, and societal structures shape organizational behavior and public institutions. His work integrates philosophy—especially Aristotelian virtue ethics—with organizational theory to address contemporary challenges such as the Anthropocene, post-truth politics, and public confidence in policing. He is particularly interested in the ethical dimensions of strategy and the role of businesses in global sustainability.
The recent articles show a strong trend toward interdisciplinary inquiry, combining organizational studies with philosophy, public administration, and environmental ethics. His work frequently engages with real-world policy issues, as seen in collaborations with the United Nations Development Programme and UK police forces. Themes include virtue ethics in governance, the linguistic construction of leadership, and the ethical responsibilities of corporations in the Anthropocene.
Kevin Morrell has collaborated extensively with scholars such as Mark Learmonth, Frederik Dahlmann, Loizos Heracleous, and Basit Javid. His research has been supported through prestigious fellowships, including a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship, and has informed policy development in areas like public order policing and tax fairness. He has also worked with private sector clients such as Touchstone Partners and Priority Bridge on transformational strategy and culture benchmarking.
He has contributed to major research centres, including the Centre for Organizations and Society and the Centre for Ethical Finance and Governance at Durham University. His current activities involve developing models for shopper decision-making and organizational culture tools, reflecting his applied research orientation.
