Kevin Henry serves as Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation–School of International Interpreters, University of Mons since 2017, holding dual doctorates from the Free University of Brussels (Languages, Literature and Translation Studies) and Shanghai International Studies University (French Language and Literature with translation focus). He directs the ChinEAsT laboratory established in 2022.
His educational background includes:
- Doctorate in Languages, Literature and Translation Studies, Free University of Brussels
- Doctorate in French Language and Literature (translation specialization), Shanghai International Studies University
Henry specializes in translation criticism and Chinese phraseology, with pioneering research on Sino-French literary exchanges and Chinese political discourse analysis. His work examines translation treatment of Chinese idiomatic expressions and critical history of literary transfers between China and Francophone worlds.
Recent scholarship integrates digital humanities methodologies into translation studies, reflecting interdisciplinary innovation. His publication trajectory reveals consistent focus on three interconnected domains: Belgian symbolist literature reception in China (particularly Maeterlinck), translation of contemporary Chinese political discourse (Xi Jinping's works), and linguistic challenges in rendering Chinese idioms (chengyu).
As a research-accredited supervisor, Henry secured FNRS-FRS funding (2021-2022) for his project on Belgian symbolist literature translations. His scholarly network spans European and Chinese academic institutions through active participation in funded collaborations.
He founded and leads the ChinEAsT laboratory focusing on East Asian translation studies, while maintaining affiliations with the Interdisciplinary Research Group East Asian Studies (EASt) at Université Libre de Bruxelles. Henry serves on the editorial board of Impressions d'Extrême-Orient and co-organizes academic events including the "China and Translation" seminar series.
