Pierre Kaser

Pierre Kaser is a Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at Aix-Marseille University, where he has taught ancient Chinese literature and literary translation for over twenty years. He directs the research axis "Literatures of Asia and Translation" at the Institute of Asian Research (IrAsia – UMR 7306) and serves as editor-in-chief of the online journal Impressions d’Extrême-Orient.

His primary research focuses on:

• Ancient Chinese literary traditions from the imperial period
• 17th-18th century Chinese vernacular fiction
• Classical Chinese textual analysis
• Cross-cultural literary translation methodologies
• Comparative Asian literary studies

As leader of the "Literatures of Asia and Translation" research axis at IrAsia, Professor Kaser coordinates interdisciplinary scholarship on Asian literary heritage and its transmission through translation, fostering international academic collaboration while advancing French sinological research.
