Dr. Kevin Dixon is a Senior Lecturer in Social Science at Teesside University, affiliated with the SSSHL Department of Law, Policing and Investigation and the Institute for Collective Place Leadership. His research focuses on the sociology of sport, exercise, leisure, and health, particularly the intersection of sport with civic responsibility, public health, criminal justice, and social inclusion. He has authored or co-authored six books, including Sport and Crime (2025), Screen Society (2018), and Consuming Football in Late Modern Life (2013).
His work examines issues such as cybercrime in sports, football fandom, and deviant leisure cultures. Dixon has been recognized in the Research Excellence Framework (2014 and 2020), contributing to submissions ranked among the top in the UK. He actively supervises PhD students and engages in media discussions on topics like athlete activism, sports politics, and fan culture.
Key collaborations include studies on football-related cybercrime, LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports, and the societal impact of major events like the 2012 Olympics. His research outputs span 58 publications, including articles in Leisure Studies and Managing Sport and Leisure, reflecting a focus on contemporary social issues within sport.
