Kevin D Broom is an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as Vice Chair for Education and Director of the MHA and joint MHA/MBA programs in the Department of Health Policy and Management. His academic leadership spans oversight of PhD, MHA, MPH, and other specialized programs, collaborating with the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. Before joining Pitt in 2017, Broom retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Medical Department after a 23-year career, where he held roles in healthcare finance, education, and operations.
Research focuses on healthcare financial management, quality of care and profitability, and competency-based education. He has contributed extensively to studies on value-based purchasing, hospital capital structure, and graduate education outcomes. His work bridges military healthcare finance with academic research, emphasizing strategic financial alignment in public health organizations.
Teaching areas include Healthcare Financial Management, Professional Development, Accounting, Microeconomics, and Human Resources Management. Broom holds a PhD in Business-Finance from the University of Mississippi, an MBA from Syracuse University, and a BGS in Teaching from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
