Kevin Clark is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences. He leads the Clark Research Group, focusing on developing analytical methodologies to characterize RNA modifications in the central nervous system and single cells. His work integrates mass spectrometry, separations science, and neurobiological models like Aplysia californica to study post-transcriptional regulation mechanisms.
Education: Ph.D., Iowa State University (2018); B.A., Gustavus Adolphus College (2012). Research interests include RNA modifications, neuro-analytical chemistry, and ionic liquid applications in sample preparation. His group explores novel materials like ion-tagged oligonucleotides and magnetic ionic liquids to enhance nucleic acid analysis.
Key projects involve profiling RNA modifications in single neurons and linking them to behavior, learning, and CNS health/disease. Recent grants include a 2024-2028 Arnold & Mabel Beckman Foundation award for studying ribosomal epitranscriptomes. Teaching includes courses like Bioanalytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis.
Publications (2020–2024) highlight advancements in mass spectrometry-based RNA analysis, microbial pathogen detection, and ionic liquid applications. The Clark Lab collaborates across chemistry, biology, and engineering to bridge analytical innovations with neurobiological insights.
