Kevin Campbell is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Science. His research combines phylogenomic and physiological approaches to study environmental and evolutionary physiology in diverse mammalian species ranging from shrews to whales, with particular focus on adaptations to subterranean and aquatic environments. His work is funded primarily through NSERC Discovery Grants.
Current research focuses on respiratory pigments (hemoglobin/myoglobin) in mammals, thermal adaptations of extinct cold-adapted species, and gene inactivation consequences. Research employs cutting-edge techniques including protein functional analysis and genetic sequencing.
Dr. Campbell teaches Human Physiology (BIOL 2420) and maintains an active research lab. Recent lab members include graduate students Avery Bate (M.Sc.) and Catrione Lee (Ph.D.), and undergraduate researchers including Kennedy Campbell.
