Kevin Albertson is a Professor of Economics at Manchester Metropolitan University's Business School, specializing in Finance and Economics. He serves as the Faculty Head of Research Ethics and Governance and leads the Econometrics: Analysis and Forecasting unit. His expertise spans public policy evaluation, political economy, and marketization in public sectors, with a focus on social innovation and low-growth economies.
His research explores the impact of globalized markets on UK political economy, privatization, and marketization in public sectors. He investigates social and responsible innovation, particularly in economic stagnation contexts, and emphasizes relational socio-economic interactions over transactional models. Recent work includes studies on employment dynamics in low-to-zero growth economies and the role of mutual aid in criminal justice desistance.
Recent publications analyze the challenges of aligning private incentives with public good in criminal justice marketization, critique neoliberal policies, and explore social impact bonds as tools for financing social innovation. He also examines inequality's lifecycle effects on democracy and frameworks for responsible innovation in stagnant economic environments.
Kevin supervises postgraduate research students and has led numerous commissioned research projects, including evaluations for the Ministry of Justice and other governmental bodies. His work often addresses practical policy applications, such as cost-benefit analyses of criminal justice interventions and alternatives to custody programs.
He is a member of the Decent Work and Productivity Research Centre, contributing to interdisciplinary studies on labor standards, productivity, and socio-economic well-being.
