Keryn Gedan is an Associate Professor of Biology at The George Washington University, leading the Gedan Lab (SEH 5685). She specializes in marine community ecology, tidal wetland ecology, and conservation biology, with a focus on climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems.
Education:
- B.A. in Biology and Environmental Studies, Tufts University (2002)
- Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Brown University (2010)
- David H. Smith Fellow, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center
Research Interests: Her work examines tidal marsh responses to sea level rise, saltwater intrusion, and invasive species, particularly at marsh-forest ecotones. She investigates foundation species, plant-soil feedbacks, and environmental gradients through experimental ecology in greenhouses and field sites like the Chesapeake Bay and Mid-Atlantic coastal bays.
Scientific Awards:
- David H. Smith Conservation Research Fellowship
