Kerry Dean Carso

Professor Kerry Dean Carso is a Professor of Art History at SUNY New Paltz, specializing in 19th-century American art and architecture. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Boston University and an A.B. from Harvard University. Her research explores interconnections between the arts and literature, with a focus on Gothic Revival architecture, Romantic painting, and cultural nationalism. She has published extensively, including the award-winning American Gothic Art and Architecture in the Age of Romantic Literature (2014) and Follies in America: A History of Garden and Park Architecture (2021). Her work has been supported by fellowships from institutions like the Huntington Library and Winterthur Museum. Carso teaches courses on American art, architecture, and the Hudson River Valley, and is a Sustainability Faculty Fellow at SUNY New Paltz.
