Kenny Rodriguez-Wallberg is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Oncology and Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, and a Senior Consultant at Karolinska University Hospital. She leads the Laboratory of Translational Fertility Preservation, integrating clinical work with translational research in reproductive oncology.
- Education: Medical degree and OB/GYN residency in Colombia, Pediatric Gynecology fellowship in Paris, PhD in Sweden (2005).
- Clinical Role: Head of the Program for Fertility Preservation since 2007.
Her research interests focus on fertility preservation for cancer patients, including safety of ovarian tissue cryopreservation, assisted reproductive technologies, and psychosocial aspects of post-cancer infertility. She pioneered protocols like aromatase inhibitors for hormone-sensitive tumors and tracked 1254 Swedish FP patients (1998-2018).
Her cohort studies reveal higher live birth rates in FP patients, particularly those with benign conditions, and no increased cancer recurrence risks from hormonal stimulation. Key publications in JAMA Oncology (2021), Human Reproduction Open (2020), and Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica (2019) define trends in FP techniques like oocyte freezing and IVF/ICSI.
She mentors PhD students in her lab (e.g., Mariana Barroso, Tobias Lekberg) and collaborates with Swedish Research Council, Swedish Cancer Foundation, and Stockholm County Council on national FP projects. Her work bridges clinical reproductive medicine and oncological safety, addressing access barriers and ethical considerations in FP care.
