Kelvin Knight is a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Ethics and Politics at London Metropolitan University's School of Social Sciences and Professions, serving as Course Leader for the Human Rights and International Conflict MA and Director of the Centre for Contemporary Aristotelian Studies in Ethics and Politics (CASEP).
Education:
- BA in Politics and History, University of York
- PhD in Government, London School of Economics
His research centers on contemporary Aristotelian practical philosophy and the history, philosophy, and politics of human rights, with critical analysis of human rights' relationship to the liberal tradition (Kant/Rawls), international relations of liberal states from the 1940s to post-Cold War eras, and integrative approaches combining Kantian and Aristotelian practical philosophies. Knight's work bridges theoretical ethics and real-world political applications, particularly through the lens of Alasdair MacIntyre's scholarship.
Knight actively supervises doctoral research in Aristotelian practical philosophy and human rights studies while leading the International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry as General Secretary since 2007. He also serves as Secretary for the Political Studies Association's Contemporary Aristotelian Studies specialist group.
As Director of CASEP, Knight oversees a dedicated research hub that hosts senior research fellow Alasdair MacIntyre and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration on ethics, politics, and practical philosophy through international conferences and publications.
