Kelly O'Briant is an Associate Professor of Ceramics at the University of Dallas, affiliated with the School of Art. She holds an MFA from Arizona State University (2014) and a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2000), complemented by archaeological fieldwork in Finland. Her artistic practice explores themes of memory, identity, and materiality through porcelain sculpture and installations. She has held residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation and the International Ceramics Studio, and her work is featured in major exhibitions and publications such as Lark Books' 500 Series.
Education: BFA in Design (2000) from UNC Greensboro; MFA in Ceramics (2014) from Arizona State University. Additional studies include courses at the University of Oulu, Finland, and residencies in Hungary, China, and elsewhere.
Research Interests: Kelly’s work bridges traditional ceramic techniques with digital innovation, focusing on coiling, pinching, and mixed-media installations. Her art often investigates themes of social distance, cultural heritage, and the interplay between form and memory. Recent projects like Portrait of Quiet (2022) and Navigating By Heart (2016) exemplify her exploration of porcelain as a medium for storytelling and spatial immersion.
