Dr. Kelly Mikenas serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Elmhurst University, holding a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. She directs the GREEN lab focused on Green Roofs, Ecology, and Environmental science research.
Her educational background includes doctoral training at Northwestern University. Research centers on urban plant ecology with three active projects: identifying native flowering plant traits for green roof survival, examining symbiotic fungi's role in drought tolerance, and measuring atmospheric carbon sequestration potential of green roof vegetation.
Dr. Mikenas teaches core biology courses including Principles of Biology (BIO 100), General Biology I/II (BIO 200/201), Plant Anatomy (BIO 332), Conservation Biology (BIO 351), and Plant Physiology (BIO 441), alongside environmental studies courses spanning introductory to capstone levels.
