Andrea Krieg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Elmhurst College. She specializes in challenging students to critically analyze the criminal justice system through lenses of history, race, and socioeconomic inequality. Her courses include Gender and Crime, Criminal Corrections, and Juvenile Justice and Delinquency.
Her research focuses on neighborhood change and the lifelong impact of race on social mobility. She emphasizes field experiences, taking students to locations like the Joliet Correctional Center and Cook County Courthouse, and invites law enforcement representatives to class. Krieg advocates for understanding systemic inequities, such as how poverty and racial disparities shape criminal justice outcomes.
She advises the Alpha Phi Sigma honor society, organizing events like 'Beyond the Badge' to highlight non-traditional criminal justice careers. Krieg’s teaching philosophy prioritizes humanizing marginalized populations and fostering critical thinking about systemic flaws in the justice system.
