Kelly Kamm is the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Endowed Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology at Michigan Technological University, with an affiliation in Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, an MHS in Microbiology from Johns Hopkins, and a BS in Microbiology from Washington State University.
Her research focuses on understanding and addressing health disparities in rural populations, particularly maternal and child health, breastfeeding, and hand hygiene interventions. She designs scalable, cost-effective solutions for improving nutrition, hygiene, and quality of life in resource-limited settings. Recent work includes studies in rural Bangladesh and Kenya on handwashing promotion, and projects in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula addressing breastfeeding challenges and food security through initiatives like the Indigenous Gardens (DIGs) program.
Her publications emphasize behavioral and social determinants of health, with a focus on pandemic-era adaptations (e.g., physical activity promotion during COVID-19) and interventions targeting vulnerable groups. She also evaluates community health programs, such as Exercise Is Medicine® On Campus, to enhance institutional health initiatives.
Collaborations extend to global health partnerships (e.g., UNICEF) and interdisciplinary teams addressing epidemiological challenges. Her work bridges epidemiological research with actionable community strategies to reduce health inequities.
