Dr. Josefa L. Martinez is an Associate Research Scientist in the Section of General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine (YSM), a Lecturer in the Department of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), and core faculty at the Equity Research and Innovation Center. She is affiliated with the Yale Institute for Global Health. Her roles span maternal-child public health nutrition, implementation science, and community-based interventions focused on obesity prevention and breastfeeding support in disparity populations. She holds a PhD in Chronic Disease Epidemiology (Yale, 2016), an MHS in International Public Health (Johns Hopkins, 2006), and a BA in Political Science & Spanish (Trinity College).
Her research prioritizes translating interventions into policy, with emphasis on breastfeeding protection in the WIC population and food security’s role in cardiometabolic outcomes. Notable collaborations include work with the Eastern Caribbean Health Outcomes Research Network (ECHORN) and the Lactation Advice Through Texting Can Help (LATCH) trial. She leads studies on maternal-child nutrition, health equity, and systems-level interventions.
