Marcella Nunez-Smith

Marcella Nunez-Smith, MD, MHS, is the Inaugural Associate Dean for Health Equity Research and C.N.H. Long Professor at Yale University, holding appointments in Internal Medicine (General Medicine), Chronic Disease Epidemiology, and Social and Behavioral Sciences at Yale School of Public Health. As Founding Director of the Equity Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) and leader of multiple NIH-funded initiatives, she focuses on addressing systemic health disparities through community-engaged research.

• Research Themes: Social determinants of health, non-communicable disease epidemiology in the Caribbean, patient-reported outcome measures, and health workforce diversity

Key Publications analyze chronic disease disparities in Caribbean populations, develop equity frameworks for clinical trials, and evaluate medical education reforms. Her work includes NIH/NIMHD grants for ECHORN cohort studies and pandemic response equity initiatives.
