Keith Brown is Professor of Scottish History at the University of Manchester, specializing in early modern Scottish and British history. He earned his MA and PhD from the University of Glasgow and previously held positions at St Andrews University where he served as Head of School, Vice-Principal, and Deputy Principal.
Brown's research examines Scottish migration to England between the 16th-18th centuries, aristocratic society, and Anglo-Scottish relations. He led development of the online Proceedings of the Scottish Parliament archive (1235-1707). Current work focuses on Scottish assimilation patterns, return migration, and capital repatriation during the formation of Great Britain.
His publications analyze social mobility, cultural adaptation, and political integration of Scottish migrants. Brown is Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Royal Society of Edinburgh, with research funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
