Keira Williams is a Senior Lecturer in History at Queen's University Belfast (QUB), part of the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. She holds a PhD and has taught at institutions including Texas Tech University and Loyola University-New Orleans before joining QUB in 2017. Her research focuses on gender, race, power, popular culture, and crime in 20th-century U.S. history, with notable works like Gendered Politics in the Modern South (2012) and Amazons in America (2019). She currently researches postwar Myrtle Beach, SC, for an upcoming book.
Her teaching includes courses on the American South, gender politics, and mass incarceration history. She has received awards such as the Dibner Library Residential Scholar (2015) and Agility Funding (2024). She actively contributes to academic talks, including presentations on race, policing, and cultural history in the Americas.
Her publications explore intersections of gender and popular culture, with recent articles analyzing feminist media like Oprah Winfrey’s influence and southern women writers’ migration narratives. Her interdisciplinary work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to gender equality and social justice.
