Kayliegh Richardson is an Associate Professor and Head of Apprenticeship in Law at Northumbria Law School, Northumbria University. She transitioned from legal practice as a family law solicitor to academia in 2015, maintaining her legal practising certificate. Her research focuses on access to justice barriers for domestic abuse survivors in family court proceedings, particularly the impacts of legal aid cuts and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. She co-leads the Gendered Violence and Abuse Interdisciplinary Research Theme and previously convened the Gendered Violence and Abuse Research Network. Professional activities include organizing conferences on gender-based violence and contributing to policy reviews, such as the Law Society’s LASPO review. She also serves on the Independent Scrutiny and Oversight Board for Northumbria Police.
Education includes a Law LLB (Hons) from 2011, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) since 2017, and solicitor status from the Law Society in 2015.
Her research interests span legal frameworks addressing domestic abuse, with a focus on victim-survivor protection, procedural reforms, and the intersection of law and societal challenges. Publications analyze advocacy schemes, legal aid accessibility, and pandemic adaptations in family courts. Collaborative work highlights interdisciplinary approaches to gendered violence.
