Katyayani Papatla

Katyayani (Katya) Papatla, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at the Yale School of Medicine and a gynecologic oncologist at Smilow Cancer Hospital, serving locations in New Haven, Greenwich, and Stamford. Her clinical focus includes cancers of the female reproductive system, such as ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers.

Dr. Papatla earned her MD and MPH from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (2016), followed by residency at Temple University Hospital (2020) and a gynecologic oncology fellowship at Mount Sinai Health System (2023). She is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Diversity, Inclusion, and Health Equity Committee, reflecting her research emphasis on health equity for gynecologic oncology patients.

Her research spans second primary cancers in cervical cancer survivors, obesity in endometrial cancer patients, and pandemic impacts on gynecologic oncology care. She has received awards for resident research and clinical excellence, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s Outstanding Resident honor.

Dr. Papatla advocates for annual gynecologic screenings and vigilance toward symptoms like postmenopausal bleeding. She emphasizes health equity, highlighting disparities in cancer outcomes among racial/ethnic minorities and barriers to specialty care access.

Her professional affiliations include the Hepatic Arterial Infusion Program, Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) Program, and the Oligometastatic Cancer Program at Yale Cancer Center. She contributes to clinical trials and translational research, aiming to improve patient outcomes through equitable care and advanced therapeutic strategies.
