Dr. Katy Peters is an Associate Professor in Law and Director of Employability at the University of Surrey's School of Law. She holds affiliations with the Surrey Law and Technology Hub and the Institute for People-Centred AI. Her academic roles include Programme Director for the LLM in Professional Legal Practice (SQE Pathway) and Senior Professional Skills Tutor. As a UK-qualified Solicitor, she specializes in medical, health, and community care law, with a focus on clinical negligence litigation. She previously advised NHS Trusts and medical defense organizations.
Her research explores legal aspects of capacity, consent, and litigation support in clinical contexts, alongside digital exclusion and widening participation in law. She teaches modules in Medical Law & Ethics, Tort, and Professional Training. Professional memberships include the Medico-Legal Society, European Association of Health Law, and Clinical Legal Education Organisation. She has participated in international initiatives like Lawyers Against Poverty’s Twinning Programme with the University of Nairobi.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Law, LLM in Medical Law, and LLB (Hons), complemented by qualifications as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and Fellow of the HEA.
