Katsushi Imai is Reader in Economics at the University of Manchester's Department of Economics, where he serves as Programme Director of MSc Development Economics and Policy. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford.
His research examines poverty dynamics, vulnerability, agricultural productivity, and policy evaluation in developing countries, with regional expertise in South Asia and Africa. He applies econometric methods to household survey data to analyze nutrition, inequality, and social protection programs.
His publications focus on multidimensional poverty, COVID-19 impacts, and agricultural efficiency. He regularly consults for IFAD and leads research on water-energy-food systems in the GCRF DAMS 2.0 project.
