Katrina Recoche is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University, with a focus on palliative care, nursing education, and healthcare equity. She leads palliative care initiatives within Monash Nursing and Midwifery and is actively involved in curriculum development across the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences. Her research emphasizes access to palliative care for underserved populations, including homeless individuals and vulnerable groups. Recoche has been Principal Investigator on NHMRC grants and collaborates on projects addressing aggression management in clinical settings and interprofessional cultural empathy.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and quality education. Notable contributions include developing peer support programs for nursing students and a Transition to University (T2U) program for alternative pathway learners. Recoche has supervised over 15 students at Honours, Masters, and PhD levels, focusing on palliative care, healthcare access barriers, and empathy skill development.
Recoche’s research methodologies include Critical Discourse Analysis, mixed-methods studies, and systematic reviews. She has authored/co-authored 28 publications and presented at international conferences like the Empathy Symposium 2019. Awards include the Joan Harding Scholarship (2015) and the Vivian Bulwinkel Keynote Address (2008).
Recent projects include a randomized controlled trial evaluating aggression management training and a study on paramedic access to palliative care knowledge. She serves on editorial boards and peer-review committees, including for Health and Social Care in the Community.
