Claire Johnson

Professor Claire Johnson is the Vivian Bullwinkel Chair of Palliative Care Nursing at Monash University's School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Clinical Lead for End of Life Care at Eastern Health. She holds an adjunct professorship in the Medical School at the University of Western Australia. With a PhD in Health Behaviour Sciences (University of Newcastle, 2007), her work focuses on improving palliative and end-of-life care delivery through research, policy, and clinical practice integration. She leads initiatives to enhance primary care palliative care systems and co-founded the Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC).

Her research spans development of care models, use of routinely collected data for quality improvement, and translational research. Current projects include routine data collection from general practitioners about end-of-life care and culturally responsive nursing education for voluntary assisted dying contexts. She has led over 80 research outputs since 2006, with recent focus on primary care barriers, interprofessional collaboration, and patient/carer expectations.
